Certain systemic diseases such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, circulatory disease and neurological conditions place the foot at ‘higher risk’ of developing secondary complications such as bacterial infection and ulcerations.

Damage to the foot can arise because healing is delayed due to poor circulation or neuropathy whereby the foot loses its ability to detect pain.

Diabetics are at increased risk of developing neuropathy within the foot and up to 35% of diabetic patients do so. It is important that diabetic feet are assessed at least once a year to monitor any change within the foot from a ‘normal’ baseline.

Our podiatrists provide a comprehensive diabetic assessment service, the results of which can be passed onto your GP. This consultation includes vascular and neurological assessment, foot care and footwear advice.

We can also provide a range of treatments and therapies for the ‘high risk foot’ including routine podiatry treatments, orthotic (insole) therapy, footwear modifications and the provision of bespoke orthopaedic footwear.
